Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces

Surfaces in the dental practice are cleaned and disinfected to keep them
clean and to prevent infection. Surfaces can be contaminated by aerosols
(e.g. sprays in the patient’s oral cavity) and also by skin contact by the dentist,
assistance and patients. A very large number of microorganisms can accumulate
on surfaces and be distributed throughout the practice by touch.

Surface cleaning:
Cleaning surfaces removes dirt and eliminates environmental microorganisms.
The mechanical effect can also reduce the number of
disease-causing pathogens.
Surface disinfection:
Disinfecting surfaces kills or deactivates disease-causing and other microorganisms
and reduces the total count of pathogens.

Daily wet cleaning of floors in the entrance area, passages, stairwell, waiting
room, employee break room and offices once a day is sufficient. This is also
applicable for interior fittings that do not require disinfection (e.g. surfaces at
reception).

The cleaning requirements should be discussed with the cleaners. We
recommend preparation of a cleaning schedule, which will enable the
activities of all persons involved to be tracked.
